Welcome to our "Wizard of Oz" Blog

Between now and the 2008 summer production of The Wizard of Oz, we will keep you up to date with everything that goes into this major production (stage casting, rehearsals, costuming, etc.)  If there is anything you would specifically like to know about the show, send your question to DreamweaversBlog and we will try to answer all questions here.

We have cast the Wizard of Oz and have a fabulous group of performers ready to "wow" our audiences. Unfortunately, our pianist has had a change in wok schedule and cannot play for us! Both Leighanne and Charlotte are unavailable! We need to find a rehearsal and show pianist! Please let me know if you have any "leads"! Thanks! Ms. Marshall

Hello Becky! Go to the website and click on members news. There is an icon for the calendar that lists the dates. I will update the website to place that info in a more predominant location with the Webmasters' help! Thanks! MIM

Hey Martha.  I’ve looked around the website but can’t seem to find the audition times, dates and location for OZ…..

Dear Sarah, I would certainly like to see you audition for the Wizard of Oz! On the other hand, the trip to Washington is wonderful! I have gone several times! Your question reflects the dilemma faced by many people who would like to do several interesting things at the same time. If you win, you should go on the trip! The commitment to The Wizard of Oz is a serious commitment, not only to yourself, but to the others involved in the production. If you will not know if you are a winner until after the auditions, plan to audition for a chorus role rather than a major part. Best of luck in both endeavors!  MS M

Hi, umm....I really don't know how to put this, but here goes nothing. I am entered in a short story contest for the TVEC and if I win I get a trip to Washington, but it's the 13-19 of June which cuts me out of 2 dress rehearsal's and a performance, and I have been wanting to audition for months. What should I do?

Everyone interested in playing in the orchestra for The Wizard of Oz!

We will have auditions soon.  Mrs. Marshall and I will be meeting next week to decide on this and other plans.  I hope to have flyers printed to post or hand-out at some of the area schools.  Watch the blog for new information. Thank you for your interest. Mrs.  Harrison, conductor

When will the orchestra for The Wizard of Oz be formed? How do I audition?

Posted by MIM February 29th 2008 8:12 am

Currently, the website with the libretto on it is down so we temporarily removed the link from our website. Depending upon the part you are interested in, I recommend renting the Wizard of Oz movie to review the character part. The stage show we are using follows the movie. You should prepare to sing a song from the show that would reflect the character(s) you are auditioning for in the production.  MS M

I could not find the libretto link from the website. Is it on there? I was just wondering so I could prepare for auditions! Thanks for all your help!

Dear Josh, There is NEVER a problem with auditioning, because it always adds to your experience and growth. I would encourage you to audition and hope for an opening!  MS M

I was wondering if I can still audition for the orchestra even though I do not have 4 years of experience.

Hello Sarah! Glad to hear that you are planning to audition. Often, in stage musicals, your voice is only one part of what a director looks for in casting. Your ability to "emote" on stage (make your feelings and expressions clear to the audience), how well the director sees that you fit the character image and your willingness to take direction and work hard at developing the role are all significant. If you do not have a voice teacher, you may want to take some lessons to help with projection. Practice every day to improve tone and delivery. In the final decision made by the director, your natural talent and delivery will make the difference.  MS M

Hello there, I'm going to audition for the show and I was wondering if you had advice for someone who didn't have a strong voice but was trying to build it up?

Hello Erika! Thanks for the question re: the wicked witch! This is a major role in the production but one that does not require singing. I would suggest working on your "witch character" including voice, posture, etc. to give a clear impression of your Wicked Witch. You will probably be asked to read some of her lines which you can find on the libretto site available from the Dreamweavers "Member News" link.  Break a leg! MS M
